"Prometheus and the Quest for the Flame"

Pyroraptor olympius. An acrylic painting I worked on earlier in the fall of a Pyroraptor tyring to light his dry brush on fire, in order to create a forest fire to reap the fruits of the ensuing destruction.

This is a sequel to a digital painting I did last year of the same character. I decided to do a follow up, inspired by a photo of some cooled lava that coincidentally looked like dead bodies flowing into the underworld. The behavior the Pyroraptor is exhibiting is based on some observations of raptors in Australia perpetuating forest fires by picking up and dropping burning debris to increase the fires' spread.

Completed in late October 2017.
