Description
Alright, so I've been seeing many things- mainly on Tumblr, that my friend shows me- of people using the term "womyn" instead of "woman/women". It's super confusing. Most of them, who are part of the feminist movement (the radical side) are trying to change the word because it has man in it, and apparently it means "of men" to them. The first I heard of this was in grade 7, when we all had to make advertisements and products, and a couple of my female peers pretended to make hipster clothes. They referred to women as womyn because "women means of men and that's oppressive because we're strong individuals." The thing is, who the fuck cares? Just because it has the word man/men in it, that doesn't mean it means something. Just keep the English language as it is, please.Related content

The reason that woman includes the word "man" is because man and mankindΒ used to be the old linguistic term for humanity/humans.
It literally has nothing to do with sexism.
Another linguistic argument from radfems which fucks me up is the whole "language should be genderless" argument.
I'm sorry but...you can't remove something which is so integral to the human experience up and out of language forever. It would come back into language somehow even if "man" and "woman" are banned as words in all languages. Men and women are generally different...you can't just uproot that kind of thing.

It would be hard to make language genderless, since many languages, such as Spanish, Italian, and French, are very gendered. In Italian, for example, it's still the norm to use gender-specific job titles.

Yeah, it's dumb because "man" used to be gender neutral. "Werman" meant back then what man means today and "wifman" meant woman. I've also seen people call "person" sexist just because it ends in "son" when it really comes from the word "persona".
