haha I don't know what to say other than it looks pretty cool. I love how there are images inside the must of the woman. Great use of the imagination.

I think you're an exceptional artist. Is the medium you used colored pencils?

Oooh I wish! I would love to work with colored pencils. All my works in this momment are actually 100% watercolor. Nothing else.

It's really important for me to branch out to different media to express. Thanks for asking I'm going to add colored pencils on "MUST LEARN" journal XD. You are exceptionally amazing yourself Don't stop doing what you do. Pursue it endlessly even if takes you to the edge of the universe. So will I.Β

I most certainly will do that. I'm enjoying the challenge of creating pieces of art with illustrator. You do it traditionally and I do it digitally. Wow that last piece I did with the ravens was the hardest piece i've ever done digitally. I think eventually I'd love to digitally illustrate books or publish one that i've illustrated anyway.

Haha some pieces don't take long, but some seemed to take forever. Do you ever feel that way when you work on your artwork?

By the way I think it's awesome that you can work with traditional watercolor.

Excelicious In reply to SaitouuRyuuji [2016-04-09 13:31:03 +0000 UTC]

Ooooh Big time. There are pieces where I finish under 2 hours, but some could take 6 or even 20 hours of work time. It's all worth it though . Thank you for the compliment.

I do want to branch out to digital art though since as an artist in this age it's really important to have mastery over all media to express. Currently i'm branching from watercolor, to acrylic, drip enamel painting, other traditional stuff. I plan to take photoshop and autodesk maya online classes for animation and digital art. but omg the equipment are $$$$$$.

What's the ideal tablet and program for someone to use for digital art? Do you have a fav?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SaitouuRyuuji In reply to Excelicious [2016-05-07 15:39:12 +0000 UTC]

haha i used my tax money to be able to get my tablet. The type of tablet I have is a medium Wacom Tablet, it's black. haha I ran out of batteries though so now that my batteries are dead I've been doing all my digital art by the mouse track pad and I find I like doing it better that way (for some weird reason). I'm still not used to my Wacom tablet but I'm sure I will. I find it so awesome that you are branching out.

By the way what is drip enamel painting and how does it work?

hhahaha NOICE. Thank you!

You heard about jackson pollock incredibly famous drip paintings right? It's basically you take flowy paints like enamel and drip them to create whatever you want. But I want to give it form instead of abstract like agnes cecile's style.Β

This is agnes cecile's drip enamel painting.

I see your aim with this being a surrealistic piece but as it is right now I feel it's a bit lacking in its refinement to come across as such to an outside viewer without that knowledge.

It is a lovely idea and there is ambition in here which will turn out really well if you continue to pursue art. If you're unaware of what fundamentals are you can feel free to let me know and I can help you out with those. Fundamentals are basically a set of tools which will help improve your ability to create and observe. But that's a different story.

As it is right now there's a bit too much going on for the medium used. As we know watercolors can be used to make extraordinarily detailed works: www.artistdaily.com/wp-content…

But these kinds of paintings tend to be done by people with an extremely steady hand and experience with the medium as well as basic fundamentals. When starting off with watercolors it's best to tackle a subject that can be looser and let the watercolors dictate your brush as opposed to trying to force them. Be loose with your water color strokes and they will help you out yo.

Other than that here's a handy little infographic about how to go about layering washes of color to attain depth and lighting better:

Thank you for your critique. Yes my aim for this piece was not to be loose. Students are normally taught to let loose with watercolors, but it is a style that doesn't work for my taste. This is something that I have already taken into consideration when I practiced the first month. Extreme detail will always be my love rather than loose for finished pieces.Β

Of course I shall continue practicing all the fundamentals including loose and detailed work. But for finished pieces, they will forever remain detailed. There are rules set by art classes and yet I intend to break them .

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmmoBot-HB In reply to Excelicious [2016-03-02 03:07:19 +0000 UTC]

It's all well and good to try different things but that also means you shouldn't neglect some basic principles as well! In order to break rules it's good to understand the rule first.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Excelicious In reply to AmmoBot-HB [2016-03-02 03:12:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah that's definitely obvious, to break a rule one must understand it at all possible sides. Which I have been practicing non stop in these few months since I started with watercolor . While I am proud of this piece, it is no longer reflective of what I can achieve now huehuehuehuehue. I've prepared a piece that will be reflective of my level that I have acquired.Β

That's good to hear yo if you ever need another crit feel free to post in the thread. Also don't feel like you need to rush too hard. It's good to let things sink in at a moderate pace.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Excelicious In reply to AmmoBot-HB [2016-03-02 03:18:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh defintiely not rushing. This is a pace that I am perfectly comfortable with. Everyone learns at their own pace. It just so happens my learning capacity at the very beginning is extremely high but it's going to plateau fast. Which is why as artists we gotta look for more traditional rules to break to avoid this awful ugly plateau phase.Β

Really beautiful work, and very creative! I just love the design and all the little surprises you've packed into this piece. How the hat looks like a world map, with the snake wrapped around it like JΓΆrmungandr. Loving the decorations on the hat, by the way! And then you have the four seasons represented. And the eerie but beautiful dry forest scene in the body. What's that in her eyes, by the way? I can't quite tell, but I do see a four-o-clock in there perhaps...

Wonderful work!

It's absolutely soooo great to hear other people's views and perspective. I didn't know aboutΒ JΓΆrmungandr until you mentioned it.Β That'sΒ definitely cool how this piece is also reflective of Norse mythology! The eyes are actually side view of Prague's astronomical clock I didn't want it to be so obvious. My intention for this piece was for the eyes to look like regular eyes from afar but as you get close it is actually a clock.

Thank you sooo much for your wonderful comment

Alot of symbols to be thrown in on one canvas....but you made it work. your idea was executed nicely. very clean, neat and organized. really like the cocoon and the feathers, nice design. very elegant in its own right. the tiny fish circling the head...when i look at this image I see "life" and the color of the eyes suggest its a vibrant and wonderful life indeed.....haha I keep looking at it and finding new things. globe in the hat (might not be a globe but wiht the hair underneath and the green on it makes it seem like it, putting her head inside and center of the said globe, or the world...lol) ....nice details man. This makes me glad I watched you keep up the great work.
