Description
7 Oct. 2009 - UPDATED Thanks to everyone who commented.------------------
I wanted to draw Elwen Mora because Iβve love *VyrL 's depictions of her. Elwen is an Efraet (immortal human, sorceress) sensual and strong, a little crazy and mysterious-looking, but also soft and vulnerable at times. From what I've gathered, this character has loved and lost a lot in her life, hence the nostalgic, longing look she sports above.
Pencil shaded and painted over in Photoshop, trying to keep some of the texture.
Entry to *VyrL 's Arcea Universe Contest (2009)

Thanks to everyone who
It means a lot to me.

Damn. This is so beautiful.
The expression of the girl is so <3
I think that you should have maybe add more light, and the hair looks amazing too. <3

I feel really bad for being part of this group and not being able to actually give feedback. This is by far one of the most Awsome drawings of a person I have ever seen. Great Job!

Why don't you think you can give feedback? Anybody can! Even if it's not a critique, you can comment on people's works and say what you were impressed by or what you noticed first. Say what you like and what you may not notice. Just keep trying, you'll get there!

The first thing I found very interesting about this picture is the fact that it was a very warm atmosphere but still can look so cold! Two sensations in one is hard to master! For anatomy, her hands are kind of small compared to her head, but she looks gorgeous! If you hold your hand up to your head, you can see the size comparison, but maybe she just has small hands and I'm blabbing on!

From #GimmeFeedback .
This is not quite related to the anatomy, but the hair looks like it is laying "stiffly" or something. I'm not an artist, so I can't offer you more help than that. I really like this piece, though.

Thank you for your feedback! I think that perhaps I'm missing some highlights to emphasize the volume.

I'm way of my league to comment here... I really like it. I'm not an expert but I think the anatomy looks great...
I really like the pose and how you did the hair and sheets, it makes the pic look so dynamic...
I also like the texture, it gives the image a really interesting atmosphere...
Great Work!!!

I don't see anything wrong with the anatomy (I'm still struggling with it myself, heh), and you really did a great job on the pose by capturing her body language. I love the hair, how it curls in every direction. The pencil texture is nice, too.
How did you color over your pencil lineart?

Thank you! My scanner is not that great, so when I scanned the drawing, the texture was too jarring. At first I applied a blur filter in Photoshop but the image lost too much definition. So I went back, applied just a subtle blur and then painted the drawing over but kept the layer at 50% transparency. For the areas with the worst grain, I added an extra layer of correction. I wanted to keep the texture, but make it subtle.

awesome awesome awesome!
the only thing I see is that her right hand looks a little flat, and maybe her right thigh looks a little too big. thats really nit-picking though since you asked for the feedback great work!

Hmm, I really can't find anything wrong with the anatomy, it looks perfect from my point of view. And I love the picture itself, very emotional in a way. Her expression, the looong hair covering the bed like that - it's beautiful! Well done - and good luck in the contest!

Thank you for the encouraging words! The contest happened already, however. I didn't win, but one of my favorite entries did. And I enjoyed the process of creating this and meeting awesome artists a lot.

wow. this piece is breathtaking. the only problem that i can see is the ear should be a tad higher (from what i've usually heard form the eye to the bottom of the nose) but other than that this piece really is perfectly done.

from feedback club)
I really like this one (hard to give advoice, when you are not that good))
Still, I think, right shoulder looks a little flat, though I understand it is higher in position than the other one, it doesn't seem really popping out (hope you understand)
Anyway, great deviation!))

Your entry is simply great.
You know what? During the last few days, me and my friend were obviously talking a lot about this contest (he has made two entries as well.. *patrickel ) since we were working on our entries incessantly... And our common winner's choice was "the bed one", which means this one. The way you portrayed her, the feeling of picture, the choice of colours, the fabric details, the composition... it all make your drawing so connected to the character. It's the most Elwen alike of all picture (my point of view, of course... I'm not an expert about Vyrhelle's story, all I know is what she shows us here.)
Heheheh... Everytime we talked about the entries we used to say "hm, I still think the bed one is gonna win.", even though I think there are some small anatomy matters...
Good luck for you! If you win, it will be a well deserved victory.
Sincerely.

What a nice comment. Thank you! There are some extremely beautiful pieces on Vyrl's contest gallery and your Elwen piece is one of my top favourites among them. I wish you the best of luck as well! You did a superb job. It's up to Vyrl in the end. No one better than her to decide who captured her characters best.
