Ahh.... it's nice but... In many ways it irks me to encourage people to just use edited photography in their (what I'm assuming) mangas/comics. I think it defeats a lot of creativity on the artist's part, especially when they can learn to make stunning backgrounds of their own.
I guess that's just my two sense. I can see this having some millage in pop art-themed works though.

*two cents by the way, but I totally agree with you. Even if this is a really nice made and helpful tutorial, it spreads the idea of "hey people, why do all the work yourself if you can just use taken photos, refs or stocks" off to all those that used to try on their own and still had the chance of improving on their own as well. It lets people totally loose on the actual creativity and little erfort is used to create a background that usually doesnt even fit with the whole scene itself.
Very sad IMO

What if the person uses their own pictures that they photographed around their area? Would it be right to use it if they use their own pictures. The whole using stock photos thing makes complete sense which I fully agree.

Ah, but would a professional mangaka or comic artist make all their screentones and backgrounds from scratch? Probably not, they'd buy them.

Of course not, but a profesional manga artist would use screetones for shading and effect, not to safe time to actually draw a decent constructed background.

but screentones are also used for backgrounds. They have to stick to their strict deadlines

Actually, comic artists don't normally use screentones.
There is also a huge jump from shading > taking a photo and using it for a whole drawing.

Ahh I'm always writing two sense when I mean to put cents. Thank you!
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way. So long as it doesn't make it's way into mainstream comics, I'll be content. @__@

same with me. I'm always quite sceptic reading a manga or comic that starts its firt pages with a screentones photo such as in the tut, it doesnt really show much confidence of the artist in their own skill

Unless they took the picture them self.

Well it would add up to the creativity, but in my opinion it would still be a element of the whole picture that stands out due to it not really seem fitting in the total image. It would also not really support individual improvement with one's drawingskill and the only thing it would support would be lazyness.
Thats my opinion. No need to try convince my otherwise But i respect your opinion as well.

No, I understand. It still would look strange as to different drawing styles
people have and use. I guess it would depend on what the person would also be
photographing. But yeah. ^^

Even then, it's only worth it if they also made everything that they took a picture of.

It still won't sit well within a hand drawn comic. I think the point is it takes the creativity out of drawing it, because most find backgrounds a bother.
In turn they are restricting themselves to only what their camera (or someone else's camera) can capture.
