Description So it took me all day to do, but here it is at last. A full tutorial from paper to deviantart, how I draw, scan, edit, color AND shade. If you want to see a live version of how to do this, please see the video tutorial: [link]

SORRY FOR THE BLOODY HUGE FILE! YOU'LL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD IT, TO MAKE IT A REASONABLE SIZE! I'm really sorry about that. . . to resize it, I'd have to change all 48 slides, and then it's hard to read the photoshop text. geez, I suck at this.

Hehe excellent tutorial! I just might use that method of shading next time :3

Personally though I wouldn't have recommended flattening the image before saving as JPG - I would have saved the original as a PSD, then just saved as JPG (which automatically flattens the image) so you can more easily go back and fix something later if you need. Just my two cents Still awesome tutorial!! n.n

XD Oh mais oui! I -always- save a PSD image and a JPG image; I guess I should have stated that though, you're right! XD It just comes as second nature to me; I have a HUGE folder of all the psd files of everything I've drawn x.x which is probably why my computer runs so darned slow! Haha thanks for the feedback, that's definitely good advice!

LOL I do the same thing, though instead of a folder for PSD files, I have a folder for each month and just put everything in there X3 but the folders are all huge XD

That was a most helpful tutorial. I must try that method of shading. Definitely easier than using a darker shade of every color (my usual style. *runs off to draw something*
thanks for taking the time to make this. And that's quite the snazzy Galileo there.

So, I totally have the same plushies that are sitting on your desk. d:

This is an awesome tutorial. I'd never have thought of shading like that. I'm definitely marking this for reference in the future.
On the other hand, you may want to put a direct link to the download in the comments, for smaller-res people. It doesn't quite fit for me, and I have a fair-sized screen, so smaller may also have a hard time finding the dl link.

It's very thorough!
I think you did a really good job on this!

The image is large and easy to read and examine.
And the little word bubbles make it easy to
follow exactly what you're doing.

T_T I've only finish two fully, I never could finish on because I was too worried about what content I put in it, just in case someone wants to see it

ThirdPotato In reply to SiriusDog [2008-08-07 21:47:34 +0000 UTC]

Aw, you should never let yourself be hindered by paranoia. Getting better at art requires a certain amount of self confidence. If you can't even feel free to draw in your own sketchbook, then you should break out of your shell. XD I have TONS of really wretched crap in my gallery, but it's a growing process XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SiriusDog In reply to ThirdPotato [2008-08-08 01:51:05 +0000 UTC]

I guess so. I'll just remember not to leave my sketchbook unattended XD or at least just be patient with people. Hehe some many people call my anthros "people with animal heads" or something. I should practice some other stuff....like some inflation! XD
Thanks though

I really enjoyed the tutorial! It was very simple and straightforward with each step, making it very pleasant to follow through. I'll be sure to look it up sometime when I don't suck at art and could use some guidance.

ThirdPotato In reply to AmberLepu [2008-08-07 14:11:30 +0000 UTC]

LoL Aw, thankye kindly! The very first step to being good is to build up a self confidence, and rid your vocabulary of phrases like "I suck," or "I can't," and you'd be surprised how expenentially you grow!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AmberLepu In reply to ThirdPotato [2008-08-07 15:53:29 +0000 UTC]

Than, taking your advice, I can and will draw something for you someday, neh? I'll pick up a sketchbook sometime soon and keep trying until I get there.

where do you get the led for the drafting pencil? i could find the pencil but micheals sucks and didnt have the blue led.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThirdPotato In reply to ZeroWhitefang [2008-08-25 22:24:25 +0000 UTC]

Ah the blue led is somewhat of a specialty. It's easy to find at an artschool campus like SCAD, but I guess you'd have to buy it online. Prisma makes blue drafting lead. If you can't find it in drafting form, there should be a prisma non-repo blue colored pencil at any michaels or paul's etc. in the individually sold Prisma pencils
