Description This is a shot of the Big By Langly mixing board that is in the studio here at my school. I am a music production major, so this is the coolest thing I have gotten my hands on so far...

*snicker* Love the angle... Mixers seen from the regular view are intimidating enough to us non-music production majors. (Too many buttons and switches! ) This shot just makes them that much more scary. The POV, lighting and focus (or unfocus, as it were) makes the board look so much more vast and overwhelming (or at least, it does to us non-music production majors. )

Good job!

i have to say mix is really good

it really shows a great amount of lighting and detail. when moving down, the picture seems to curve with the blur... thats just me though. a brilliant piece non-theless.

thanks, i like this one too but it usually only appeals to people who are into music. everybody else leaves comments about how it looks like star wars, or roads, or random other things. thanks for the too. i got a message for this one, i dunno what is up with the other one

At fist it looks like a highway, it's an interesting effect with the buttons close together in all the different colours

nice shot you could have let the exposure go a little longer so the close side of the board is easyer to see the shot has a good angle.. sound boards are fun, I am a sound tech for my schools news show... I love working with sound.. anywho back to your piece, depth of field seems to be a problem your focal point is farther down the board then the begining of the shot thus even though the boards near side is harder to see due to light it is still out of focus and thus distracting... any who good overall shot take my stuff into consideration for the next time...

yeah, i just got a new camera and am still learning its idiosyncrasies. next time i am in there alone i think i am going to reshoot this one since it turned out a little washy and the focus isn't as sharp as i would like it. i am also new to photoshop, so i don't have the advantage of knowing how to "fix" that stuff afterwards... thanks for the comment

flowkradd [2005-05-02 11:56:34 +0000 UTC]

very nice angle, could use a wider tonal range, right now it looks a bit washed. A levels adjustment layer would fix that easily

very nice composition

i did my best to teach myself about using these layers. let me know what you think. i tried a color balance one and a hue/saturation one...

When I saw the thumbnail, I was like "what the heck IS this?" I realized I needed to see the picture up close to recognize the subject. At first, when looking at the small picture, it looked like some little abstract, lamp-lit city at night. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised with the subject matter.

So much music is created, but why do we tend to look at the finished product, when there is beauty in the tools and processes that get us there? I think my favorite element to this piece is the angle. To be honest, I didn't think something like this could be photographed without seeming too crowded or overly-complicated. I like the rows of knobs and lights and buttons all neatly rowed and appearing to be endless, fading into the end of the studio where all kinds of sound are being created.

It's simple, yet complex. It's organized, with the light and dark well split without being too linear or equal. I like this photo a lot, and it's going into my favorites Great job!

thanks so much for the incredibly in-depth comment and the i appreciate it a lot. it is not often that you get that kind of attention here on DA, so i am greatful whenever somebody puts that kind of thought and time into looking at my work. thanks again!

yeah, mix it baby!

well, getting out of the shallow part

I like the Depth of field in this one. it makes you want to go further in the picture what I just don't agree much is with the blur and excess of grain but hell! it also looks artistic because it starts fading , and fades then again at the end

Great angle; at first, I thought it was some sort of insane sci-fi scene. Others have said this: try getting one with the foreground in focus.

IT'S HUGE! I want it! That's awesome. Anyways, I love the angle of this photo. I love the focus, but I think it might have been a little cooler with some more light. This almost looks like at any second an X-wing or some other star-wars related spaceship is going to fly through here. lol Great photo! I love it.

did you get one of the foreground in focus? now I want to see how that would look since this one turned out pretty cool.
