Description This is a shot that I took one of the many recent days that it was pouring pretty good. I also used it for the preview for my poem "Rainy Days".

Nice photo...my only suggestion would be to sharpen it a bit more.

Having read all the previous comments I have come to the conclusion that the foreground is winning all the attention.
The interlinking ripples and the lighting on the first puddle are of excellent interest.
I presume you shot the path at this angle so as to lead the viewer into pic.But theres no focal point at the end of path,so the viewer generally looks at the first puddle and the rest of pic goes mostly unnoticed.
I think your ideas been good but youve tried to capture too much on this one.
The only way round this is to use a wide angle lens or by turning your camera through 90 degrees (portrait).
I have used this method on
[link] and a few other landscape shots. This way you gain.
(1) Maximum depth of foreground.
(2) The horizon falling on upper third of frame (rule of thirds).
Its an exception to the rule that is effective.
Hope I've been of some help.

Haha excellent idea, and you're right, I really do wanna jump in with massive wellies on!

Difficult to compose a puddle I think, although maybe I would have tried a lower angle for more DOF.

And happy birthday!

Nice work here, bud. I like the angle you took it at and the white border works well for it. The focus seems fine for it too. Superb. :claps:

i don't know much about photography so bear with me.great shot first of all, but i would want more details/contrast on the ripples.maybe the place itself didn't give you much choice with the angle of the shot?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dev-IAN-t In reply to finfanfoom [2005-04-12 01:48:46 +0000 UTC]

yeah, i just wanted to get the sidewalk in the shot, so i had to go with that angle. otherwise there were some things that i didn't want in it.

I almost ed this but then i didn't - It excellent, dont doubt that but i think it needs a little more either side of your road. Same for your cloudy photo - You can keep te subject as the clouds and the rainy road but try to include a little extra.

dev-IAN-t In reply to Lethal-Tones [2005-04-11 19:53:06 +0000 UTC]

almost... oh well, i thought i did alright in getting a little extra of the reflections in some of the puddles and whatnot, but i guess i could use a little more depth or something... i dunno, thanks for the comment i am glad you liked it even though it fell just short of being worthy...

Kafei911 [2005-04-10 04:53:30 +0000 UTC]

There's something about this that's just not clicking in my brain. Something's misssing, but I couldn't tell you what. Maybe a different approach. Either a wider angle to capture the sidewalk better or a closer view of that puddle on the bottom left.

Otherwise, excellent. You seem to be into poetry, so I don't know how well I'll be able to help you out commentwise.

i love the rain, especially when i have no where to go. i like listening to it and smelling it. and on occassion, walking thru a puddle this is a great shot. you really find amazing angles. this shows the surroundings reflected perfectly and the ripples are a great touch. great job

The texture in the water from the rain is really nice! I also like that you offset the path in the frame so that you didn't have everything symmetrical.
