Thank you. I'm glad you can feel it. I tried to avoid making it too commercial, even though the subject screams:"ad campaign!"

I felt like leaving it untitled but then again there's alot of people who put weight on titles, so I decided to keep it. I also hate descriptions...
Thank you.

Oh my. What a horrifically wonderful deviation.
Uhm. Let me explain. The sign gives the impression of certain. . .hit-able children viewed through the windshield of a car. . .
But if the driver is drunk. . .the proximity of the children to the viewer's eye is alarming, as if to say too late. . .too damned bad, you're drunk, and here's the horrible reality of mortality you'll inflict. . .
Broken glass and pavement and blood. . .
Anyway. Vivid impressions my mind took from this one.
Nice job. . .

This is frightening...
The way the head of the little girl is cut off...
The way the sign is dirty, has been run over...
It is very clever,
Very poignant,
It makes me angry, scared, sad,
And thoughtful...
An interesting question...Yes...
Art that challenges us is good art.
Congratulations on the well deserved DD.

I really like the artwork of this. What exactly did you use for all the texturing? Is that unedited photography or some Photoshop work? It looks really good. I also like the odd cut off of this. The colors are vibrant, too, and attract the eye easily.
In terms of DUI, though, I'm not as set on some of the things we get fed all of the time. I will never be an advocate of driving under the influence. I think it's wrong and stupid; however, that being said, levels of tolerance aren't merely determined by how many drinks you have, which is what all the driver's manuals will tell you. In other words, if your breath test for alcoholism proves you are on the "under the influence" mark, that doesn't necessarily mean you are incapacitated. Smooth ER is affected by alcohol intake. The more alcohol you take in during your life and certain times, the more tolerance you build; however, that doesn't stop your breath from showing the levels of alcohol you've had, whether or not you're "drunk."
DUI testing is usually done with a breathalyzer test, which should be a little disconcerting to us all, as you will find out from a section of this page . The following is said in regard to the breathalyzer test:
Breath testing, as currently used, is a very inaccurate method for measuring BAC. Even if the breath testing instrument is working perfectly, physiological variables prevent early reasonable accuracy....Breath testing for alcohol using a single test instrument, should not be used for scientific, medical or legal purposes where accuracy is important.
I wouldn't personally want to be one of the ones pulled over and inaccurately read. GetMADD is a very thought-provoking site that I recommend everyone check out. Whether you com to the conclusion that you agree or disagree with them doesn't really matter, so much as it does make you think. Take these questions from their website, for example: Why is your license shredded on the spot without a hearing, only for refusing a breath test?, Why do states praise the new BAC .08 limit as fair & then arrest people for BAC levels as low as .015?, Why are there no organized groups fighting for laws against inattentive drivers who are involved in 25-50% of traffic deaths? Here's another interesting comment: Nationally, 12.8% (Not MADD 's 42%!!) of all drivers involved in fatal accidents during 2001 are known to have been intoxicated according to the BAC laws of their state. Things like this always make me ask the question: Okay, why the agenda?
Also, DUI statistics can be quite faulty. Let's say I'm speeding on an interstate. I should get pulled over for my carelessness, and I do. Because I'm a bit tired and frustrated from a day at work, I get a little snappy with the officer. In turn, he wants me to take a breathalyzer test. I have had a few drinks, but I'm speeding because I want to get home as fast as I can. If my breathalyzer test proves I'm driving under the influence--even if that wasn't the reason I was pulled over--I will get fined for it, and I will become a statistic for everyone to hear, whether they realize that or not. In other words, my careless speeding would be entirely about my wanting to get home, not the drink I had at dinner, but it could still be called a DUI in the end.
Finally, another thing to consider is an issue brought up here . There are statistics blabbed off to everyone all the time about how many people die due to drunk drivers. I won't deny, at all, the fact that many people do die because of drunk drivers. However, few people know that if two cars crash and the person in the backseat of your car has had a few drinks and is killed in the accident (let's say you were the designated driver) that person goes down as a DUI statistic, even though he or she wasn't driving, and the other driver in the accident wasn't drinking. It will still be a statistic that basically says, "This person died in a tragic car accident because of alcohol."
I'd like to reiterate that I'm not a supporter of driving while under the influence. I've had a person in my family die due to a drunk driver. Yet, I'm also an advocate of truth, freedoms, and personal rights. The statistics that get crammed down our throats, which most of us take as solid truth, rarely tell the whole story and sometimes are downright inaccurate due to poor equipment or other issues. This is one of those cases that while people should not, under any circumstances, drive under the influence, I have to wonder who will pay more in the end.
So the rest of us will lose our freedoms (and maybe even get ourselves into trouble when we aren't "drunk"), while the drunk drivers will continue to do the very thing they always do--ignore the laws and still drive while drunk. Just because a high fine for DUI exists, it doesn't mean it's going to stop the town drunkard from driving back home all by himself.
Again, nice art, but I thought I'd add my two cents to things.
Merry Christmas, by the way!

I totally agree with you. I've viewed DUI's very critically. For example, I find it ridiculous that a person driving with a hang-over is stamped as a drunk driver. I can see where you're coming from. However, I think I should emphesize that the concept of my piece deals rather with the callous spirit of indifference of the crime, than the abundancy of violators. Personally I hate statistics almost as much I hate people who think truth lies in statistics.
Thank you for your two cents.

Great message! I also noticed your comment on how you ran over the sign several times with your car - I admire the effort you put into it
The framing of the shot is good too, as the focal point is largely on the tire marks.
Where exactly did you find the sign?

I find it sadly hilarious that a drunk is expected to be conscious of what he does. It is hardly an individual's responsibility. Its like giving you a gun and a thirst for killing someone and telling you not to do so. "If you drink, don't drive" means almost nothing to someone drunk enough not to drive. Alcohol needs to be banned or used under a lot more controlled conditions.
This is wonderfully portrayed. Perfect title. Its almost like a MADD ad. for concept.
