Having made the descent from the Glimmerfalls, Luther leads his mount and captive through the Martilis Estate farmland, the well-ordered fields still magically swollen with grain and awaiting a harvest that will likely never come. Luther shakes his head, surveying the ground to either side of the chalk-white road, framed by trees that stand like regular sentinels. The horse senses the lush greenery that abounds and quickens its pace--the road has been long, and the animal will need a good rest and rub-down at the day’s end.

In spite of her resistance, the thief is once again over the saddle. Having there endured the hours through the foothills, Luther can sense her growing misery. Her pale skin is growing rosey pink with sunburn, and at times her head lulls dizzily against his leg. Unable to feel her pain, Luther can sense the desires she has to be free of it all--the pounding in her head, the dreadful ache in her shoulders, arms, and spine, the nausea pressing into her gut from the saddlehorn, and the chafing of rope against her wrists and ankles. He knows that she wisely hopes to lie in wait and watch for an opportunity but fears that she’ll be in no state to seize upon it when it arrives.

This is the 20th page of the second-to-last chapter in the whole story, starting the last scene in the journey Luther and Callista make to the Martilis Estate (formerly "Mitesceru Estate"). I have the next nine pages already finished and ready for posting, so they should go up pretty quickly for the next few weeks. At this point, the two characters have traveled to where the Westfield Road turns North and East toward in the upper left of the map thumbnailed below.
