The corridor soon stretches before and behind them. The tiled walls and smooth floor reflect an abundance of light and shadow beyond what they have brought with them, suggesting forms that loom just without the solidity of translucent brick and stone. The sounds of the interlopers’ booted footfalls float on a lake of whispers, the sound of wind through grass and leaves, the creak of tree limbs, and even of the gentle splash of a fountain.

“I can’t place this hallway,” Luther says aloud. When the thief remains silent, he adds, “I know the manor’s been built on the plan of an elaborate alacriax, but I must admit that I’ve gotten turned around in that hidden chamber back there.”

“I’m not sure if that makes me feel better, or worse,” Callista mutters.

“Oh?” Luther says, prompting her to continue.

“I’ve tried for years to figure out where this is--always from the outside,” she says quietly.

“And?”

“And I still can’t tell. I even tried guessing how long the hallway is and matching it against the garden spaces outside, but…”

“But the length is magicked, too,” he finished for her.

Check it out: Two in one week! I'm going to try and keep this up for a few weeks and make some more fine-tuning adjustments to my schedule to take it up to three. Then four. And someday soon, hopefully we'll be back up to five.

Also, I think I'm just going to keep on with these two right through to the end of their whole bit together. It's several dozen pages but it'll be easier to make the adjustments in my system if I'm not hopping all over the end scenes of this damn thing.

Regardless, Callista was drawn using the reference imagery provided me by fetishfaerie-stock , and Luther was drawn using the reference imagery provided me by Mistersneaky . Thanks, guys!
