“Luther,” Callista gasps, trying to pull back from the thing and feeling ultimately trapped and hopeless. “Don’t let...I can’t...”

Luther is brutally unresponsive as the jackrat’s maw splits wide, its incisive fangs sharp and dripping. Callista mentally curses the man, but something within her snaps. Her captor, her weapons, the horrible creature bearing down on her--all have conspired to bring her to this terrible end, and she knows she cannot escape it. The fight leaves her, and in her heart she is once again suspended in glowing webs in the top of the Fading Tower, awaiting the venomous fangs of the dreadful Guardian of House Martilis.

“Lady make it quick,” she mutters as pain and death close in.

“Ah, not yet,” Luther’s voice says somewhere above.

I'll put the next page up later today or early tomorrow.

This is the 32nd page of the second-to-last chapter in the whole story, continuing the last scene in the journey Luther and Callista make to the Martilis Estate (formerly "Mitesceru Estate"). I have the next eight pages already finished and ready for posting, so they should go up pretty quickly for the next few weeks. At this point, the two characters have traveled to where the Westfield Road turns North and East toward in the upper left of the map thumbnailed below.
